Storytelling in the Workplace: Using Personal Narratives

The Storied Way Perspective with Rituparna

“Rituparna, storytelling is easy for you, but what about us?” a senior leader once asked me.

I hear this all the time. Many believe they don’t have a story worth telling. But the truth? Everyone has a story. You just have to know where to look.

In my conversation with Janaki Sabesh on The Storied Way Perspective, she shared a simple but powerful technique:

👉 “I ask people to recall a small moment—a connection with a child, a teacher, or a friend. That’s all it takes to start.”

At work, personal anecdotes can:
🔹 Make leadership relatable – A leader’s vulnerability builds trust.
🔹 Enhance presentations – A personal story makes data memorable.
🔹 Strengthen teams – Shared experiences create deeper connections.
🔹 Encourage problem-solving – A well-told story can shift perspectives.

💡 You don’t need a grand story—just an honest one.

This post is part of my new Storytelling Guides series—a collection of practical maps, blueprints, and insights to help you navigate The Storied Way in business and beyond.
